Judges slam Golden Buzzer for blind musical prodigy with autism

You’re unlikely to find a more inspiring candidate in this season of “America’s Got Talent” than singer Kodi Lee. The 22-year-old is both autistic and blind, but he’s not letting that hold you back. Kodi masters six instruments and loves tap dancing, and he calls every day he performs “a good day.” Kodi is a unique musician in more ways than one; he is a true musical scholar, one of only 25 worldwide.

Kodi’s mother explained, “We found out early on that he loved music. He listened and his eyes got huge and he started to sing. Through the music and the performance, he was able to bear living in this world, because when you have autism, it’s hard to do what everyone else does,” she said. “It saved his life, playing music.” When Kodi takes the stage escorted by his mother, AGT judge Gabrielle Union asks him about his audition, and Kodi succinctly replies, “I’m going to sing a song on the piano.”

Kodi then wowed the AGT studio and viewers with Leon Russell’s song “A Song for You”, Revealing a soulful voice, complemented by an effective soprano with beautiful harmonies as he played the piano. “What just happened there was extraordinary,” said Simon Cowell, dazzled. “Your voice is fantastic – I will remember this moment for the rest of my life. Gabrielle Union, however, was the judge who made Kodi’s dream come true.
“I’m a new judge this season, and I’m also a new mom this year,” Gabrielle explained.

“It’s the hardest job I’ve ever had and the most rewarding job I’ve ever had. You want to give your children the moon, the stars and the rainbows.

“And tonight I’m gonna give you something special,” she tagged the Golden Buzzer, bringing everyone, Kodi, his family, and viewers to tears.
